This month, the African Union (AU) celebrates 10 years since being founded as a successor to the largely misunderstood Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The anniversary comes at a very interesting time for Africa, a continent now glowing with optimism following its best decade (2001-2011) in terms of economic growth. As part of the celebrations, we dedicate this month’s Special Collector’s Edition to the AU’s evolution as well as taking stock of its successes, challenges, failures, and future prospects.
